We are redirecting our efforts in the Sierra de San Francisco. Due to changing circumstances we are no longer doing field clinics. Our support for the people of the sierra now consists of providing scholarships for those students wishing to go beyond a 6th grade education. One student is in nursing school and another is studying aeronautical engineering. Another is attending high school, and one adult is working on her high school eqivalent. Our help includes computers and internet sevices living on remote ranches due to COVID restrictions.
Amigos has partnered with local families to transport grammar school students to Santa Rosalia for routine and emergency dental care. We are planning to expand this service for adults as well. We currently assist familes that experience costly pediatric emergencies, which have included an accute asthma attack and a major shoulder injury due to a fall.
We have helped the residents in Santa Martha repair and reburish their community health house so that visiting doctors will have a comfortable facility where they can see patients.
In San Francisco, we are in the planning stages of building a completely new community health facility. Locals have agreed to provide most of the labor, and Amigos will pay for construction materials.
As we have done for the last 25 years, our primary focus is on the children of the Sierra.
