Amigos de los Californios

Our mission is to provide health care services and related humanitarian aid to under-served communities in Baja California, Mexico. Occasionally we assist individuals in arranging for special treatment in Tijuana, San Diego, or Los Angeles.

We currently operate clinics each spring at San Francisco de la Sierra and Santa Martha, remote villages in the Sierra de San Francisco, Baja California Sur. (See location on adjacent map.) We take all our supplies (including dental stations, generators, pharmaceuticals, food and a field kitchen) to the sites. Our volunteers bring their personal camping gear and sleep in clinic buildings, tents or trucks.
Our services include: dental, medical, and optometric care. We are also working with the Deborah Wayne Foundation in nearby San Ignacio to equip a permanent dental facility in the new Deborah Wayne Clinic.
Amigos was founded in 1996 by Bill and Sue Evarts, long time Baja California travelers, who have a great love for the peninsula and the people we serve.
Amigos de los Californios is a charitable, non-profit California Corporation. Donations are fully deductible under the Internal Revenue Service Code, Section 501(c)(3). The organization has no religious or political affiliation.
