The annual sponsor party at the Bobbitts' home will be held on Sunday afternoon, October 2. (Watch the mail for details.)The dental clinic in San Ignacio is tentatively scheduled for Nov. 23 - 26, 2011.
The Amigos' clinic trip to San Francisco de la Sierra and Santa Martha is scheduled for March 10 to March 24, 2012.
COLLABORATION WITH FLYING DOCTORS
The Flying Doctors, Los Medicos Voladores, from northern California, are now collaborating with Amigos. (www.flyingdocs.org)
They are donating two complete dental chairs and additional supplies for the Deborah Wayne Health Center in San Ignacio. Together, we will continue to upgrade equipment at the Center. Los Voladores also visit San Ignacio with their own medical teams. We appreciate their support and look forward to working with this fine organization.

At the 2009 sponsor party Johnathon Studinka from the St. Mary's School in Escondido, organized "Operation Toothbrush". Here he presents a sample of the 350 toothbrushes that he collected for the Amigos from his classmates.

In September 2008 the Hipodromo Rotary Club of Tijuana presented Amigos de los Californios with a recognition plaque for the years of service the organization has given to the people of Baja California.

The Amigos are establishing a pilot dental clinic at the Deborah Wayne Health Center in San Ignacio.

Martha Arce has had severe hearing loss since birth and has worn hearing aids most of her childhood. Audiologist, Dr. Judy Horning, a long time Amigos sponsor, takes impressions of Martha's ears for new hearing aids after the old pair had been destroyed by a mischievous mouse. She is at the top of her class in school now and can read and write proficiently.

Dr. Oscar Rivera, a pediatric specialist, and Assistant Rod Kelley, treat a patient in San Francisco de la Sierra. The portable dental units in the background are designed and maintained by the Hayes Handpieces Franchise in Carlsbad.

The road to Santa Martha leaves the peninsular highway at Bonfil about 12 miles east of San Ignacio. Conditions vary from year to year. It takes an hour or more to reach the community from the highway.

Sue Evarts' field kitchen is cleaned up after the lunch meal in Santa Martha and ready for dinner preparation. Sue and her crew serve over 700 meals to team members and frequent visitors during the two week Clinic.

Dental care for the children in the schools is a priority. After 13 years of annual treatment and oral hygiene education the children in Santa Martha and San Francisco de la Sierra have good dental health.

Dr. Judy Botello, an Amigos' pediatrician, examines a patient at the public health clinic in Santa Martha. Pharmaceutical donations are gathered throughout the year by Amigos' medical director, Dr. José Gonzales, who practices in Tijuana.
